The Facility

 
The Veterans Group is located on a beautiful quiet tree lined street in the Powelton Village section of West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The facility consists of two-three story homes that are joined in the rear of the property by a shared kitchen and two comfortable dining areas. These open welcoming dining areas are also regularly used for meetings, Bible studies, and homework and computer study areas for the men. The shelter provides private, semi-private and dormitory style accommodations with shared facilities on each floor.

On the grounds there is a lovely picnic area with benches for the men and their guests to enjoy the outdoors. The men have a horse shoe pit, installed by group of Comcast volunteers, which is used regularly used for competitions. Donors are invited and partake in regularly scheduled competitions with the men.

There is also a seasonal vegetable and herb garden which is cared for by the men. The fresh produce from the garden is used by the chef for summertime meals, and is enjoyed by all the residents.

The Veterans Group has the capacity to house fourty-eight men. The Veterans are charged on a sliding scale fee according to their ability to pay. Every effort is made to maintain an environment of order and harmony for the men.  An atmosphere of care and respect stimulates healthy supportive relationships between the residents.  And this results in trust and security among the men, the staff and the volunteers.
